DETAILS

New construction of a 570,000 square foot state-of-the-art building for the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. The design-bid-build project was built by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for the U.S. General Services Administration and replaces six existing buildings and surface parking lots. The steel-frame, glass curtain wall building achieved LEED Platinum status and includes offices, dining facilities, childcare center, structured parking, and laboratory spaces that feature high bay facilities for transportation simulation activities.

Scope of WORK

Procon provided MIT with design and construction program and project management from the planning stages through occupancy, as well as commissioning, Building Information Model (BIM) services and move management.

  • Procon helped MIT navigate in their role as a third-party developer of a federal project by the U.S. General Services
  • Administration for the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Procon helped mitigate schedule, cost, and operational impacts due to the late addition of a third security system that needed to be integrated with the two security systems already included in the design.
  • Provided move management services to relocate approximately 1,200 employees from five different buildings over 16 move phases.
